A Washington D.C.-area bartender was inundated with texts about the debate Monday after C-SPAN mistakenly put up her number during their post-debate analysis.
Tripp Diaz told The DCist that she was sitting at home watching American Horror Story when suddenly at 11 PM, her phone went crazy. By the end of the night, she had 7,900 texts, and by Tuesday morning she had another 4,500. 400 people also tried to call. It wasn’t until a friend sent along a screenshot of C-SPAN that she understood what had happened.
Diaz says most the texts were just people sharing their opinions, but some of them were nasty. Diaz, a Clinton supporters, says most of the negative ones were from Trump supporters and contained photoshops of Clinton and racial slurs. But others, like Doug, were just lonely: he wanted to keep talking even after he released she wasn’t C-SPAN.
Luckily, Diaz has unlimited texting and can’t be charged for the calls that she didn’t pick up. “I’m probably just going to change my number,” she said, thanks to “the fools who sit and respond to C-SPAN.”
