On Monday’s edition of Good Morning America, Mediaite founder and ABC legal analyst Dan Abrams told Robin Roberts that he doesn’t think there’s a chance that John Edwards will testify in his own corruption case because the defense team recognizes his testimony would be too risky.
“I don’t think there’s a chance he’ll take the stand,” Abrams said. “The defense here is that he’s a scoundrel and a liar, but not a criminal so I think it is simply too risky to put that scoundrel and liar on the witness stand to talk his way out of it. I simply don’t see an upside here.”
Abrams noted that if Edwards were to testify, the entire dynamic of the trial would change: “Once you put John Edwards on the stand, everything changes. The entire case then hinges on John Edwards. If those jurors don’t believe him, if they don’t think he’s been honest with them, then the defense could be in big trouble. I don’t think they’ll chance it.”
