Dana Bash to Nikki Haley: If Trump Knows Russia Meddled, Why Won’t He ‘Say This in Public’?

CNN has released a preview clip of U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley‘s State of the Union interview with Dana Bash, in which they address the big topic of Russia following the Trump-Putin meeting.

Bash asked her if President Trump really accepted Vladimir Putin‘s denials of election interference.

Haley said that Tump wanted Putin to “basically look him in the eye [and] let him know that ‘Yes, we know you meddled in our elections. Yes we know you did it, cut it out.”

Of course Putin was going to deny it, she added, but “everybody knows that Russia meddled in our elections.”

Bash then posed this question:

“You said everybody knows that the Russians meddled in the U.S. elections, and that the President said so behind closed doors to Vladimir Putin. If that’s the case, why won’t the President say this in public? It would put a lot of these questions, and––frankly the fact that a lot of your fellow Republicans are perplexed––it would put it all to rest. Why won’t he do it?”

Haley said “you can ask him” and insisted that you can’t just judge Trump by his words but also by his actions.
