Dana Perino Trashes NYT Op-Ed Writer: ‘If You Think You’re Being So Effective, Shut Your Mouth’

Fox News host Dana Perino had a lot to say about the anonymous senior White House official who penned the scathing op-ed in The New York Times blasting President Donald Trump.

Perino, who previously served as press secretary for President George W. Bush, appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight and said that allowing elected officials to carry out what they were elected to do “is the right thing” instead of undermining them from within the administration.

“And his staffer should absolutely resign because the other thing is if you’re a senior administration official- I’m a good example of this, there are benefits to that,” Perino told Tucker Carlson. “You are given a level of credibility that you didn’t have before you were a senior administration official. So while you’re lapping up those benefits, no doubt this op-ed writer is scouting around for his next private sector opportunity in which he will be able to make a lot of money. And then he’ll maybe whisper something along the way, ‘Oh, by the way, I was the one who that op-ed.”

She also called it “gross” and “abhorrent” whenever staffers take credit for a line that was given by the president in a speech or an interview.

“That’s something that happens in Veep, but it’s actually happening here,” Perino continued. “If you think that the president is being restrained, then don’t say anything. Right? If you think you’re being so effective, then shut your mouth.”

“That’s a great point,” Carlson reacted.
