David Plouffe: Obama Will Speak On Long-Term Deficit Reduction Plan This Week
White House Senior Advisor David Plouffe appeared on Meet the Press this morning and even though one budget fight might over, Plouffe made clear that President Obama is readying to tackle the longer-term budget issues. Later this week Obama will speak about a deficit-reduction strategy, but until then Plouffe defended the cost-cutting actions already taken by the President.
Plouffe argued that Obama’s budget for next year included many of the proposals from the deficit commission and would “reduce a trillion dollars over the next 10 years.” Furthermore, Plouffe claimed the healthcare reform is going to save a trillion dollars in the deficit over the next two years and made the point that if Republicans do intend to repeal healthcare reform, then such savings would be lost.
David Gregory pushed on the issue of entitlement reform and Plouffe admitted more needs to be done, teasing “that’s what the President’s going to lay out.”
