Donald Trump has recently been sharpening his attacks against Hillary Clinton by going after her husband’s past. After a few cryptic tweets on the matter, a Trump campaign official brought up Bill Clinton‘s past history with women, and on Twitter last night, Trump himself tweeted that Clinton has a “penchant for sexism.”
On Meet the Press this morning, Andrea Mitchell brought the matter up to DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. She responded to Trump and said anyone who wants to attack the former president can do so at their own peril.
She avoided the issue of Clinton’s personal life and instead touted his popularity with the American people and his record as president.
As for Trump’s general insults, Wasserman Schultz said, “It’s really outrageous the depths and how low he has allowed the campaign to sink.”
Mitchell asked her, then, why Trump does pretty well in match-ups against Clinton. Wasserman Schultz dismissed Trump’s popularity as just another example of why the GOP is out of touch with the American people.
