Dem Congressman: Giuliani’s Acting More Like a ‘Trusted Mouthpiece’ to Speak to Trump’s Base Than a Lawyer

Congressman Jim Himes (D- CT) told Anderson Cooper tonight that Rudy Giuliani isn’t so much President Donald Trump‘s lawyer as a “trusted mouthpiece to speak to the right wing.”

After Giuliani’s latest walk back, Himes said it seems like the main point of what Giuliani does is muddying the waters and getting people to question whether there’s “any knowable truth,” with the eventual goal of casting doubt on Robert Mueller‘s final report.

Cooper said the only other explanation for what’s going on with Giuliani is that “he’s losing it.”

“Nobody would hire Rudy Giuliani to be their defense attorney, in the classic sense of the world, if they were being charged with a crime… He is here because he goes on TV, which is of course not a typical thing for a defense attorney,” Himes said. “Rudy Giuliani is on TV pretty much every week for the express purpose of speaking to the president’s base.”
