Whereas most scandals these days tend to divide the parties, both Democrats and Republicans are united in collective outrage over the growing VA scandal. And one Democrat took to the House floor today to lambaste President Obama for lacking any sense of urgency about fixing a system that keeps veterans on wait-lists so long, they end up dying before they can be treated.
Congressman David Scott, who supports a bill to make it easier to fire VA officials, said Secretary Eric Shinseki should be the first to go. He said that VA officials he spoke to “told a damn lie” when they said there were no veteran suicides other than the reported ones, because the truth came out just a day later.
But Scott also had some harsh words for the president, expressing his profound disappointment with the Commander-in-Chief:
“I listened to the president today. And I was very disappointed with President Obama today. There was no urgency. Mr. President, we need urgency! We need you to roll up your sleeves and get into these hospitals!”
