Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX) told State of the Union host Candy Crowley that the Obama administration had dropped the ball on the immigration crisis on the United States’ southern border, and in fact should foreseen the current problem.
“With all due respect to the administration, they are one step behind,” he said. “They should have seen this coming a long time ago.”
Cuellar argued that the United States has experienced similar immigration surges following previous’ countries political meltdowns, and that the increasing number of children being apprehended at the border over the past couple years should have pointed to an escalation in the problem.
“This is not a Mexican problem, it’s a Central American problem,” Cuellar said. “It’s not the first time we’ve seen this surge, and the administration should have been ready.”
