Dem Rep.: ‘Pretty Offensive’ for People to Criticize Trump Choosing Generals for Cabinet
Democratic congresswoman and veteran Tulsi Gabbard is not happy about all the criticism of Donald Trump picking generals for his cabinet.
Trump is picking General James Mattis, General John Kelly, and Lieutenant General Michael Flynn for high-level positions in his administration, and there’s been quite a bit of blowback to that. A lot of people have pointed out the importance of a civilian-controlled military, while some have even began to use the word “junta.”
On CNN today, Jake Tapper asked Gabbard about these concerns people have expressed, and Gabbard gave a very blunt answer:
Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: As a veteran, concerns about generals serving in Trump’s administration are “pretty offensive” https://t.co/cXP5J1g7aY

“As a veteran and as somebody who’s still serving in the Army National Guard, I find it pretty offensive for people to outright discriminate against veterans.”
She said these generals have put their lives on the line to serve this country and lamented how people are “discriminating against them” because of their previous service.
Gabbard is one of a few Democrats who has met with Trump in the past few weeks.
