Democratic Congressman Calls for Al Franken to Resign Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

In light of at least six women publicly accusing Senator Al Franken of groping, sexual harassment, or other inappropriate behavior, Congressman Seth Moulton — who is also a Democrat — has called for the liberal lawmaker to resign.

The Massachusetts representative said the following in an appearance on Meet The Press:

“Yes, from what I know he should resign. And there will be more of these cases. We want to make sure that the women feel supported coming forward. I think it’s also important to understand that this is not just a problem in Congress. We ought to be setting the tone for the country for how women who don’t have famous bosses, who are not a part of big news organizations or in politics or in the movie industry, [that they] can come forward with these allegations as well.”

Moulton added that he is “glad this issue is finally coming up,” as he believes it is something that has to be addressed throughout America.

“We’re finally bringing some light for what has been a rampant problem and we all need to address it. Congress should be setting the way, but clearly we’re not doing that right now,” said the lawmaker.

One woman who has come forward against the Minnesota Senator have stated he groped them during a 2003 photo op. Additionally, sports broadcasting personality Leeann Tweeden accused Franken of forcefully kissing her and later mock-groping her in an non-consensual, disturbing photograph while the two were overseas on a USO tour.

In response to the claims, Franken has issued several apology statements, saying he “has never intentionally engaged in this kind of conduct.”

While Franken has embraced the Senate ethics panel that is beginning to look into the alleged misconduct, he has not openly hinted at stepping-down from his elected position.

Franken is not the only Democrat who Moulton has taken aim at over the recent wave of misconduct allegations in Congress, as he also slammed his party’s “leadership” for not appropriately responding to the claims.

“I mean, at the end of the day this just wasn’t leadership that we saw from our Democratic party leaders, and that’s why I’m calling for a new generation of leaders in our party,” Moulton said in a slam against House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosiper BuzzFeed News.
