On CNN’s Outfront tonight, one of the panel discussions concerned the serious questions being raised about Donald Trump‘s mental health and whether that kind of talk is appropriate. The consensus: not really.
Trump supporter Kayleigh McEnany said this is clear overreach by the anti-Trump forces, predicting it will backfire. Erin Burnett pointed out that Trump is trying to turn the tables on Hillary Clinton with this question.
MoveOn.org spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said that Trump clearly “knows what he’s doing and we’re giving him an excuse,” while Amanda Carpenter said that Trump is the one “driving the rest of us insane.”
Republican strategist Rio Dennard condemned the questions as basic “dog-whistle politics,” calling them “deplorable.”
Democrat Basil Smikle pointed out that maybe people shouldn’t be taking mental illness so lightly when it’s a real thing people struggle with every day.
