Despite Losing Twitter Record, Obama Praises Jenner’s ‘Tremendous Courage’
Along with the debut of her Vanity Fair cover on Monday, Caitlyn Jenner also managed to break President Barack Obama’s Twitter record, becoming the new fastest person to reach one million followers in just over four hours.
Shortly after that milestone was reached, the presidential Twitter account controlled by Organizing for Action sent out this tweet of support (the president’s personal @POTUS account has not said anything on the matter):
It takes courage to share your story. https://t.co/Q7wWjV9Rxx

During today’s White House press briefing, Josh Earnest fielded the inevitable question about the president’s reaction to Jenner’s very public gender transition.
Earnest said he did not think Obama was particularly “concerned” about losing his Twitter record, “while he enjoyed holding that distinction while it lasted.” He added that the OFA tweet is “consistent with the president’s views.”
“The president does believe that Caitlyn Jenner has shown tremendous courage as she has undergone this transition in a very public way and that’s worthy of our respect,” Earnest said.
