Dianne Feinstein Skeptical of Kerry’s Claim About Safety After Bergdahl Swap
Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation this morning, Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein contradicted Secretary of State John Kerry‘s assertion that the exchange of five Gitmo detainees for U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has not put U.S. troops abroad at higher risk.
Referring to Kerry’s remarks to CNN that the U.S. military has “ways” to make sure the five released prisoners do not return to battle and attack American soldiers, Feinstein said: “It’s hard to be comfortable when you really haven’t been briefed on the intricacies of carrying out this agreement.”
She expressed skepticism over the possibility for Qatar’s government to surveil the five Taliban members and ensure they won’t recidivate. “It’s a mixed bag at best,” she said, referring to reports that some of the released prisoners do intend to fight Americans again.
