Some of the biggest names on John McCain‘s list of presidential campaign foreign policy advisors have expressed serious alarm about Donald Trump. So why isn’t McCain there too?
McCain has, of course, criticized Trump. On CBS this morning, he said that neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton have displayed what he considers anything approaching the right strategy. He hopes they consult with the right advisors and military leaders.
But as John Dickerson pointed out, a lot of people in the conservative foreign policy sphere are alarmed by Trump and can’t bring themselves to vote for him, considering him manifestly unqualified to be Commander-in-Chief. And Dickerson asked McCain why he isn’t there yet.
McCain simply said, “I said I would support the nominee with the party, I have strong disagreements, we’ve just been through several of them.”
Aaaaaand… that was it.
Lindsey Graham bashed both candidates more specifically on foreign policy while saying that Clinton is at least going in the right direction.
