Do Ask, Do Tell: Chaz Bono Compares DWTS To ‘Being In The Army’
Chaz Bono appeared on ABC’s Nightline to discuss his contentious debut as the first transgendered contestant on Dancing With The Stars. Bono told anchor Cynthia McFadden he’s had a great time so far being on the show, “It’s the hardest job you’ll ever love. It’s like the Army!”
Bono refused to let the controversy over his participation get in his head. “I’m really good at tuning that stuff out.” When McFadden asked Bono whether he had anything to say to the people who didn’t think he should be on the show, “I don’t have anything to say. I’m here, so what are you going to do?”
Dance partner Lacey Schwimmer said that Bono kicked some “serious butt” and he picked up on the moves really fast, the only trick was getting his body to handle all the pressure.
Bono said he hoped to be on the show as long as he can. Schwimmer said, “It’s in America’s hands at this point.”
It was evident from the interview that it wasn’t the controversy getting to Bono but having to dance last. “It’s tough,” Bono exclaimed. “You’re in a state of nervousness all night!”
