Don Lemon Blasts Trump as ‘Racist’ and ‘Misogynist’ on CNN: ‘I Don’t Say That Lightly’
CNN’s Don Lemon appeared on The Situation Room Tuesday evening, and was asked about President Donald Trump‘s late night tweet calling him “the dumbest man on television.”
Trump issued a broadside against the CNN host last week that would have been considered scandalous under a previous president, but was obviously shrugged off as par for the course coming from the current one.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon,” Trump wrote Friday night, after watching the NBA star’s CNN interview. “He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do.”
Situation Room host Wolf Blitzer asked Lemon about the president’s “disgusting” tweet on Tuesday.
Lemon––who had responded on his show last night––revealed that he doesn’t follow the president on Twitter anymore, telling Blitzer, “It’s too much and I find his tweets to be outrageous, and I find them to be most of the time beneath the dignity of the office… I think that we have more respect for the office than he does.”
The CNN host proceeded to stand by his own tweet response to Trump, which he said asked, “Who’s the real dummy? Is it someone who puts kids in classrooms, as LeBron James is doing, or is it someone who puts kids in cages and separates their families at the border?”
“And I stand by that,” he said. “I think it’s awful. I think its disgusting. As I said here on CNN before, I think this president traffics in racism. I do believe this president is a racist. I don’t say that lightly. I think the evidence points to it.”
Lemon also said he thinks the president is a misogynist, and is playing on “an old racist trope about black, African-Americans, people of color, being of inferior intelligence.”
