Don Lemon Grills Conservative Guest: ‘Could You Choose to Be Gay?’
After Dr. Ben Carson told CNN’s Chris Cuomo this morning that he believes being gay is a “choice” because people “go into prison straight — and when they come out, they’re gay,” Don Lemon decided to ask his panel of guests if they could choose to change their sexual identity in the same way.
The most telling interaction came when Lemon posed the question to conservative commentator Ben Ferguson. “I think people choose to do different things every day, including if they choose to be gay or bisexual or transgendered or whatever it may be,” he said. “There are a lot of people that choose different things. O don’t think that is some shocking new revelation.”
Pressed on the question once more, Ferguson insisted, “I’m not gay, that’s pretty obvious. I’m heterosexual.”
“It’s not obvious,” Marc Lamont Hill said in response.
“I think there are people that choose to be, for example, bisexual. Can you choose to be bisexual? The answer is yes,” Ferguson added, once again refusing to answer the question in reference to himself.
