Jimmy Kimmel had Bill Maher on his show Wednesday night, where the two of them discussed the state of things for politics and late night shows now that Donald Trump is about to take office. Both of them agreed that they’d have Trump on their shows, but there would be conditions.
While talking about people who are determined to have nothing to do with Trump, Maher remarked that he would have Trump on his show if the mogul asks, because “it’s important to talk to important people.”
“I know he’s actually a game show host from Queens, but now he’s the president of the United States,” Maher said. “So if you’re going to have him on, hold his feet to the fire.”
After briefly reassuring Kimmel he wasn’t being literal on that last part, Maher summed up his warning by saying “don’t let him use you.”
Maher said he wasn’t sure how long it would be before Trump appeared on Real Time, because the mogul is too difficult to predict with any consistency. He also took time to reminisce about the time Trump tried to sue him for jokingly saying the the president-elect’s father was an orangutan.
