During Heated Segment on Melania, Juan Williams Brings Up Past Insults Lobbed at Michelle Obama on Fox News
The hosts of Fox News’ The Five slammed T.I. today for a video featuring a Melania Trump lookalike stripping in the Oval Office. The First Lady’s spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham tweeted in favor of boycotting T.I. as a result.
Dana Perino in particular said the First Lady did nothing to deserve that and said first ladies in general should just be off limits.
Jesse Watters then asked, “Why doesn’t Michelle Obama speak up?”
Moments later Juan Williams said this in response:
“To your point about Michelle Obama, just this week we had this case where a woman running for the Senate in Minnesota was found do have said Michelle Obama can’t stand up as straight as a chimp. I mean, gosh. You think about that kind of racist language or don’t forget what happened even around here, we’ve called her baby mama. Remember that kind of stuff?”
(Williams was presumably referring to a 2008 Fox News “Obama’s Baby Mama” chyron that came under serious criticism. At the time the network put out a statement saying, “A producer on the program exercised poor judgment in using this chyron during the segment.”)
When his co-hosts asked what he’s talking about, Williams said, “I won’t get into it, ’cause I don’t think it’s necessary, but believe me, check the record.”
He also brought up comments that were made about Michelle Obama’s weight.
Watters said in response, “Well, you’re skirting the main issue, and it’s T.I.”
