Earnest and ABC’s Jon Karl Mock Grimes’ Refusal to Say She Voted Obama
Following up on a question by Fox News’s Ed Henry, ABC’s Jonathan Karl joked with White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Tuesday about the recent flub by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Grimes who has refused to definitely state whether she supported President Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections.
“Josh, you boldly said you voted for the president,” Karl said. “Now, I assume that was in 2008 and 2012? Twice?”
To laugher from other reports in the White House briefing room, Earnest said he’s “been a longtime supporter.”
“Do you believe you have violated the sanctity of the ballot box by telling us who you voted for?” Karl asked, still making fun of Grimes.
Smilingly sheepishly, Earnest said, “I’ll leave that for you guys to decide.”
Twice in the last week, Grimes, who is looking to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R), refused to say whether she supported Obama in his races for the White House, citing privacy reasons.
