Ellen Jokes About the Pizza and Star-Studded Selfie in Live Post-Oscars Show
Ellen DeGeneres kicked off her live post-Oscars show Monday talking about the big awards ceremony and, of course, the selfie that crashed Twitter. The selfie, which included celebrities like Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Spacey, quickly became the most retweeted thing ever in the history of things. And so today, aided by actor Max Greenfield, DeGeneres gave the audience some behind-the-scenes gossip from the big night.
She talked about the pizza gag and said the guy holding the boxes had no idea she was going to bring him on stage to hand out slices to the stars, especially the actresses who, DeGeneres quipped, hadn’t eaten for days.
She also brought up the selfie, and explained that some of the celebs involved were really eager to jump in. Kevin Spacey, for example, “jumped up and knocked two people over to get there.” Jared Leto “ran from the other side of the theater” but could only get his eye in the shot. And poor Liza Minnelli couldn’t get in the shot.
DeGeneres revealed that Samsung would be donating a dollar for every retweet, and since it’s been almost three million retweets so far, they’re donating three million and it’s going to two charities. And then she said the audience would all get Samsung Galaxies and they reacted appropriately.
