Eric Holder to Ferguson Leakers: ‘Shut Up’
On Wednesday, The Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart sat down for an interview with Attorney General Eric Holder at the Washington Ideas Forum and asked him about the series of leaks that have emerged surrounding the Michael Brown shooting case in Ferguson, Missouri. In Holder’s words, the leakers need to “shut up.”
Earlier in the week, the Justice Department condemned the leaks, which have included details about Brown’s autopsy and the apparent testimony of witnesses who agree with Officer Darren Wilson’s version of events.
“These leakers have made the determination that they are trying to somehow shape public opinion about this case,” Holder said Wednesday. “And that’s inconsistent with the way that we conduct investigations, and especially grand jury investigations, which are supposed to be secret.”
Holder cited the release of the convenience store surveillance video just days after Brown was shot as part of an effort to discredit the unarmed teenager, saying he’s “exasperated” and “mad” about the situation.
Asked what he can do to combat the leaks, Holder simply said, “Whoever the sources of the leaks are need to shut up.”
