Erin Burnett to Reince Priebus: All Those SOTU Responses Made GOP Look ‘Leaderless’

It was Erin Burnett’s first show back after maternity leave and she was already finding herself in a combative interview with RNC chairman Reince Priebus. Things got tense when Burnett brought up the plethora of Republican responses to the State of the Union last night, saying, “That does not seem like a big tent party. That seems like a party who doesn’t know who the heck is in charge, it seems leaderless.”

“I think that’s a pretty silly comment,” Priebus shot back, adding that there were “probably 300 responses” from conservatives last night, when you consider everyone who offered their opinions on various TV and online platforms. “I mean, this is just — it’s ridiculous. Cathy McMorris Rodgers was the responder, and she gave the official response.”

With all the “splinter” responses that followed Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Burnett said “it does fan the flames of a party that doesn’t have a voice.”

Priebus insisted that he was happy to see so many conservative voice responding to President Barack Obama last night. “That’s a net win for the Republican Party,” he said. “I don’t see it as a loss at all. I think that we need to build our party by promoting different voices in our party so that we can come together and win.”
