Giuliana Rancic, commentator for E!’s Fashion Police, issued a video apology Tuesday for comments she made on Monday night’s post-Oscars show.
In reference to Disney Channel star Zendaya’s dreadlocks, Rancic said on the show that the young actor’s hair probably “smells like patchouli oil” or “weed.”

Following that statement Zendaya released the statement below on Twitter, calling the line an “ignorant slur,” and quickly received praise from her fellow black female stars for speaking out:

Rancic’s fellow commentator Kelly Osbourne even said the reaction to the comment has made her question whether or not she will stay with the show:
I DID NOT MAKE THE WEED COMENT. I DO NOT CONDONE RACISM SO AS A RSULT OF THIS IM SEREIOULSY QUESTIONONIG STAYING ON THE SHOW!

“As you know, Fashion Police is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit, but I do understand that something I said last night did cross the line,” Rancic said into the camera on Tuesday. “I just want everyone to know, I didn’t intend to hurt anybody. But I’ve learned it’s not my intent that matters, it’s the result, and the result is that people are offended, including Zendaya, and that is not okay. Therefore, I want to say to Zendaya, and anyone else out there that I have hurt, that I am so, so sincerely sorry. This really has been a learning experience for me.”
