Ex-Trump Adviser and Rick Wilson Battle Over Whether Trump Lied About Russia Meeting: ‘You’re the Alex Jones of the Left’
Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes and conservative commentator Rick Wilson battled it out on CNN Friday night over the Michael Cohen news, as Anderson Cooper tried to keep both pundits from derailing the segment.
The pair sparred over news Cohen is claiming that his former client Donald Trump knew about, and authorized, the famed Trump Tower meeting between Don Jr. and a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer, despite his repeated denials.
After Cortes contended that Trump is “some sort of serial liar,” Wilson burst out laughing.
“Not to put too fine a point on it, Steve, look, brother, you are living in an entirely separate linguistic universe if you believe that Donald Trump does not lie out his ass every single day,” Wilson said. “He is a president who is notorious. He is infamous. These are not just lies of omission. These are lies of assertion. This is a guy who lies about everything constantly. It’s not some deep state conspiracy.”
“Here’s the real lie,” Cortes replied. “The real lie is that Russia somehow won this election for Donald Trump, that Russia somehow convinced voters in Wisconsin and Ohio and Michigan that they were duped somehow into voting for Donald Trump. That is the actual grand lie that is being told in Washington, D.C. And in mainstream media all day, every day. It’s a damnable lie.”
“It is the birtherism of the left,” Cortes declared. Cooper pointed out that Trump, who Cortes was defending against charges of being a liar, was the chief proponent of birtherism.
The fiery segment continued, with Cortes eventually calling Wilson “the Alex Jones of the left,” and “a birther.”
“You’ve lost your mind,” he added.
