FBN’s Imus and McGuirk: Brian Williams Needs to Go

According to Fox Business Network host Don Imus and his sidekick Bernard McGuirk, NBC newsman Brian Williams should be removed from his esteemed position because of his long-standing lie about being shot down with an RPG during the Iraq War.

For several years, Williams has been repeating a “misremembered” story about how he was in a military helicopter that was shot down during the war. The false story came to light this week when members of the 159th Aviation Regiment disputed his claims, forcing the anchor to recant and apologize.

On FBN Thursday morning, the Imus in the Morning pair railed against Williams’ “weak” apology and expressed dismay (“Unbelievably disgraceful,” McGuirk said) at how often the false story had been repeated over the past decade without any repercussions until now.

In the clip, first flagged by NewsBusters, the pair made clear they think Williams needs to leave the job.

“He needs to be institutionalized,” Imus mocked.

“He needs to be locked up,” McGuirk agreed. “You could be arrested and charged with ‘stolen valor’ if you in impersonate a real war hero… In this case technically not illegal but just horrible, horrendous. He has got to go. He’s absolutely got to go.”
