FCC Commissioner Slams Trump’s Tweet Threatening NBC: ‘We Have to Honor the First Amendment’
CNN’s Brian Stelter spoke this morning with Jessica Rosenworcel, one of the Democratic commissioners on the FCC, about President Trump‘s threat to revoke NBC’s license.
Stelter opened the segment by bringing up that licenses tweet and saying, “These are not the words of a Western democratic leader, they’re the words of an autocrat.”
Both Stelter and Rosenworcel first made it clear that Trump’s tweet is inaccurate, and Rosenworcel said it’s “essential” the FCC “is careful to abide by the First Amendment” in such issues.
Stelter asked about actually serious, real-world implications of the President’s threat. Rosenworcel told him, “I think we have to honor the First Amendment and our democratic norms associated with it.”
As Stelter noted during the program, FCC Chair Ajit Pai has yet to weigh in on Trump’s threat.
