‘Flipping a 180’: Fox News Reporter John Roberts Hits Trump For Blaming Shutdown on Democrats
Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts called out President Donald Trump on Friday for his attempts to blame the impending government shutdown on Democrats.
“At the moment it looks like we are lurching toward a shutdown at midnight tonight,” Roberts said on Fox News, in a clip first flagged by the Daily Beast. “And the president kind of flipping a 180 here and trying to blame the Democrats for the shutdown should that happen.”
Trump has gone to great lengths on Friday to blame a possible shutdown on Democrats — he did so seven times in a press spray and even tweeted out:
The Democrats now own the shutdown!

Roberts noted that Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer was “all to happy to remind” Trump on Friday that earlier this month he pledged to take ownership over a government shutdown.
“I am proud to shut down the government for border security,” Trump said in a televised conversation with Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it. The last time you shut it down, it didn’t work. I will take the mantle of shutting down. And I’m going to shut it down for border security.”
