Florida Republican Representative David Jolly said Friday morning on CNN’s New Day that Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio had told him he would run for reelection in 2016.
Jolly was asked by CNN’s David Gregory if he planned to drop his run for Senate after rumors that Rubio could enter the race after all. “You know, I have been running for ten months, we’ve been pulling out front, Marco’s saying he is getting in,” he said.
“I would love to announce this on national news this morning,” Jolly said of his own intentions. “I owe it to my community to wait until noon today. I will let my community know my intentions.”
Rubio originally planned to leave the Senate and join the private sector following his loss in the 2o16 presidential election. But Politico reports he was shocked when his friend and designated heir Carlos Lopez-Cantera told him after the Orlando shooting that he should run instead.
