During an appearance on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Brian Fallon said that President Trump‘s administration is lying to America and the media must not let him get away with it.
The former Hillary Clinton spokesman was among the many who reacted negatively when Sean Spicer used his debut as White House Press Secretary to burn the media on Saturday. As the Trump administration faces accusations of lying about their inauguration crowd, Fallon opined that Spicer’s dishonesty was an “affront” to public relations professionals.
“I really am concerned that if yesterday’s briefing is any indication, that this is somebody who will put his standing with his boss ahead of his integrity and standing with the press corps,” Fallon said. “Those are things that are dangerous territory.”
Fallon went on to say that both Trump and Spicer made a “clear attempt” to lie and should have resigned:
“If he was put in the situation by Reince Priebus or his boss Donald Trump to go out and tell a lie to the American people, he should have resigned rather than go out and take the podium.”
“If they’re willing to lie about something as trivial as crowd size at the inaugural, think of what they might be willing to lie about,” he added. “We can’t let the Trump administration try to ennoble something that is just a case of lying.”
