Fmr. Mexican President Vincente Fox: Trump Presidency Like ‘Watching The Ugly American’

Former Mexican president Vicente Fox appeared on CNN Friday morning for an interview with Alisyn Camerota, and doled out his usual dose of harsh rhetoric aimed at President Donald Trump.

Camerota asked Fox about the leaked transcript of Trump’s astonishing call with current Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto, in which he asked for the two to stop talking publicly about the border wall.

Fox noted that Trump denied contemporaneous reports about the call, despite their being proved accurate by the now-released transcript.

“So he’s alway lying to the American people,” Fox said. “How can he get some trust about what he’s going to do.”

“What about the rest of the world? How can we trust a U.S. president that lies every minute of the day?” he added.

Fox lamented how the “leading nation of the world, the greatest nation of the world, the United States” is now under Trump’s leadership.

“We seem to be watching the Ugly American coming back, the gringo feo that we never would like to see again.”

The Ugly American, of course, is the 1960’s Marlon Brando film, based on a book of the same name, criticizing the belligerence of obnoxious Americans, a depiction that has now become a derogatory stereotype.

Fox finished on a positive note, calling for the United States and Mexico to work together in “building a better world.”

“Thank you, thank America. Let’s move on. Let’s just stand up and let’s defend our rights and our freedom in the United States before this guy takes over!” he concluded.
