Former AG Holder Says He’s Seriously ‘Thinking About’ a 2020 Run

On Monday night, former Attorney General Eric Holder did not rule out a potential run for the presidency in 2020.

Before wrapping up his interview with top Obama official, Stephen Colbert showed him the following tweet made by reporter April Ryan.

The tweet sparked cheers from the Late Show audience.

“Were you just taking the temperature of America just now?” Colbert asked.

“I was just lookin to see potential contributors, you know,” Holder surveyed the crowd. “And cabinet members!”

The Late Show host then asked if he was “seriously” thinking about throwing his hat into the race.

“Yeah, I’m thinking about it,” Holder responded. And what I’ve said is that I’ll make a determination sometime early next year.”

He told Colbert that his focus right now now is on the 2018 midterms.

“Trying to make sure that Democrats take back the Senate, take back the House and that we do well importantly at the state level so that we — we’re going to be picking half the people right now who will be doing redistricting in 2021,” Holder elaborated. “And we have a real problem in this country with partisan gerrymandering, and so I want to make sure we elect as many people at the governor, at the state legislative level so that when 2021 comes, we have a fair redistricting process.”
