Former Observer Editor-in-Chief: ‘Interns on Capitol Hill’ Have More Expertise Than Kushner
This morning, Elizabeth Spiers appeared on CNN to discuss her recent piece in The Washington Post about why President Donald Trump‘s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is unqualified to lead the Office of American Innovation.
“He is smart and talented,” she acknowledged, but, “You still have to come back to the fact that if he weren’t married to the president’s daughter he wouldn’t be in any of these positions. There are interns on Capitol Hill with more domain expertise than Jared has,” she said, adding that she doesn’t think his past experiences were “transferrable to what he’s doing now.”
Spiers came back to a story about the Apple monitor Kushner used that ran Windows software, saying that it’s a “metaphor about how Jared views optics” that might show “the way that he goes about deciding what he’s going to tackle and what he isn’t going to.”
Mediaite’s Jon Levine took issue with Spiers’ original piece, arguing that Kushner’s management style was typical of how any businessman would behave in a similar situation.
