Fox News’ Ed Henry broke news on Wednesday night, reporting that an e-mail sent out by one CMS official indicates that “at lease one top White House aide” knew there were concerns over the technical glitches with the Obamacare website a week before the rollout began on October 1st, an e-mail which was decidedly concerned about how the media would cover the rollout if the launch ended up being so glitchy.
CMS official Henry Chao e-mailed his concern that with all the questions Republicans raised about the health care rollout, they did not have a “more comprehensive answer as to how we will ensure high availability,” and he was also very worried about media “hyperbole” over the rollout.
There’s no evidence yet, however, to suggest President Obama directly knew. During his press conference last week, Obama said he wouldn’t be “stupid” enough to play up how well the rollout would go if he knew it would be a trainwreck.
