Fox News’ Leland Vittert spoke with RNC spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany this afternoon about the RNC’s “Lyin’ Comey” attack campaign against the former FBI director.
McEnany said the RNC is running point on Comey while the White House is busy on policy, saying they re “giving him cover and defense from a really rogue disgruntled employee.”
She scolded Comey and said it’s “not befitting” for him to spill secrets in a book, but Vittert brought up the President’s own behavior:
“If the standard is behavior befitting the office and you’re saying it’s not befitting an FBI director to act in the way he’s acted, is it befitting for a President to tweet and call somebody a scumbag?”
(Trump called Comey a “slime ball,” not a scumbag, for the record. Vittert corrected this before ending the segment.)
McEnany said, “We have no problem with that because he’s counter-punching.”
She argued Comey’s getting “glowing praise” from some corners of the media but also getting called out by others, reiterating that the former FBI director “lacks all credibility.”
