Just after 7pm ET Tuesday evening on Fox News, Shepard Smith revealed new photos of what is allegedly the first pressure cooker bomb that went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon. Smith reported that Fox had obtained the photos from Atlanta Fox affiliate WAGA and interviewed reporter Dale Russell from that station about how he obtained the exclusive photos.
Russell would not reveal his sources, but confirmed that the photos in question were “verified” as coming from the crime scene. The photos appear to show both a torn-apart black bag, as well as the pressure cooker bomb itself and were apparently taken by investigators directly following the attack. Russell speculated that there could be pieces of DNA from the bomb-maker on the evidence itself. When asked how someone from Atlanta was the first to receive (or release) the photos, Russell said, “I’d love to tell you, but I think that’s a conversation we’ll have to have off-air.”
