Last week, CNN made big ratings gains over perennial leader Fox News, especially in the 25-54 demo, due to its wall-to-wall coverage of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. At least one of those people who tuned in last week might actually work for Fox.
During a discussion about CNN’s largely speculative coverage of the missing plane story on Sunday’s MediaBuzz, Fox contributor Lauren Ashburn admitted that she still tunes into CNN during big breaking news events.
Like Howard Kurtz, who moved from CNN’s Reliable Sources to host Fox’s MediaBuzz last year, Ashburn was a frequent presence on CNN before joining Fox.
While Ashburn said CNN is “primed” for a story like the Malaysia Airlines plane and “have amazing news resources” to cover it, she did think that network has been “taking it to the next level at the expense of stories like the CIA spying scandal and the situation in Ukraine. “But if I want to know about news, I do turn to CNN,” she added. “Because it is 24/7.”
