Fox & Friends Misspells ‘Selfie’ in Segment on Adding Selfie to the Dictionary
It’s a good thing “selfie” has finally been added to the dictionary, as one TV show needs to look up its spelling, pronto.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Between Two Ferns ran a quick segment this morning on words newly added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, including “selfie” and “yooper.” Alas, somewhere along the way selfie became “selife,” a word blissfully undefined. (FWIW, m-w.com defines selfie as “an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks.” Samsung should probably be in there somewhere.)
Look, spelling is tough, and I’m reasonably sure I’m gonna be denied entrance to heaven based solely on my inability to correctly spell “accompaniment” on the first try. Still, as Gin & Tacos put it the other day, “When a word has the red squiggle under it that means you misspelled it.”
This humble scribe is heartened to see “yooper” added to the dictionary, as I’ve been spelling it UPers. And those people are freaking crazy.
