Fox & Friends Presents Audio Of Obama’s 1998 Loyola Speech: ‘I Actually Believe In Redistribution’

Wednesday, on the heels of a leaked tape showing Mitt Romney telling donors that 47 percent of voters are “dependent” on Obama, the folks at Fox & Friends took a look at comments made by Barack Obama back in 1998.

Addressing an audience at Loyola Chicago, Obama said he “believes” in redistribution:

I think that the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution. Because I actually believe in redistribution — at least to a certain level to make sure that everybody’s got a shot.

As the show’s hosts pointed out, “Joe the Plumber” had a discussion with Obama about this very subject, and Romney mentioned Obama’s adherence to the concept of redistribution last night in Dallas, and offered his own contrasting vision:

“I know there are some people in our country who want to have a government take from some to give to the others,” said Romney. “They’d like to be the others that are on the receiving end of that, and feel that a redistribution model makes sense. The President some years ago said he favors redistribution. I don’t. I believe instead the role of government is to help those who need help.”
