Fox & Friends Trashes Eagles Players For Getting Disinvited From WH: ‘You Go, and You Go Proudly’

Buckle up everyone, NFL anthem protests are back in the news, and you know what that means: Fox & Friends has endless fodder for meaningless culture war segments pitting ungrateful African-American NFL players against regular Americans whose favorite part about sports is the singing.

This fresh news cycle was sparked by Trump disinviting Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles after only a handful reportedly planned to attend the White House ceremony honoring them.

That might have something to do with Trump’s repeated attacks on the players as unpatriotic ingrates for protesting police brutality by kneeling during the anthem. The president has taken a great personal interest in NFL players standing for the anthem, likely for no other reason than it being a useful way to rile up supporters.

Fox & Friends eats it up. On Tuesday, host Abby Huntsman explained Trump’s noble thinking:

“The president is very simple on this. He says there are certain things that you do. When you are invited to the White House, you go and you go proudly. When the national anthem plays, you stand and you put your hand on your heart.”

Brian Kilmeade added that the poor attendance to Trump’s planned party for the players is “an outright disrespect to the president.”

Huntsman wondered if any of the Gold Star families who attended an event with Trump on Monday night “would have said we don’t want to come to the White House.”

“What a difference, right?” she said.

“There seems to be a disconnect between people in the NFL and the public,” Steve Doocy said, arguing “the people” are on Trump’s side given polls showing Americans want players to stand for the anthem. A recent poll found 53% of people think players should stand.

“So what is [Trump] going to do? He’s going to have a party, celebrate America,” Huntsman said.

Fox & Friends concluded by mocking the Eagles players for having to practice instead of going to the White House party.

As Trump is certain to keep this going for at least the next three years, it’s worth remembering: NFL anthem protesting is the culture war topic of choice for Russian disinformation trolls, because of how effectively the issue sows division.
