Fox News Analyst Bizarrely Claims Trump Can’t Negotiate With Democrats Because They Support Open Borders

Fox News contributor Morgan Ortagus, a national security analyst, lamented on Outnumbered Wednesday that it’s impossible for President Donald Trump to negotiate with Democrats on the wall. She supported her claim by falsely asserting Democrats “believe that our borders should be open.”

“I actually think at this point that, since the Congress is clearly not going to do anything to get their act together on this, I think the president and his team need to start looking at what other measures, what other outside measures they can get to build this wall,” Ortagus suggested. “I just don’t see them being able to negotiate.”

She continued: “It is very difficult to negotiate with people who not only don’t believe in a wall — they also believe that ICE should be abolished. They also believe that our borders should be open. So the Democrat Party of Barack Obama in 2008, that position on immigration, that party is dead. You have an extreme left-wing position now among all the major presidential candidates.”

As Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Chuck Schumer have repeatedly made clear, the party supports border security, but opposes Trump’s border wall.

After the Senate passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open back in December, Trump refused to sign it as it didn’t fund his wall, kick starting what is now the longest government shutdown in history.

While some 2020 candidates like Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York have called to eliminate Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, it remains a minority opinion amongst lawmakers, and none of them have expressed support for open borders, as Ortagus claimed.
