Fox News’ Chris Stirewalt: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is Becoming ‘One of the Most Overrated Politicians in America’
Fox News’ politics editor Chris Stirewalt isn’t exactly head over heels for congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez pulled off a surprise victory over top Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY) in New York’s District 14 primary. And this week, DNC Chairman Tom Perez praised the 28-year-old Democratic Socialist, who he applauded as the “future of the party.”
Stirewalt began by giving Perez “a little more credit” as he attempted to “suck up” to people “across the board” in order to brand his party as inclusive and to please all the Democratic congressmen and governors in his “real constituency.”
“I’m sure what he’s saying is, ‘She is the future and so are you, and everybody’s the future. And together we’ll have moonbeams and rainbows and sunshine and everything will be great,'” Stirewalt told Shannon Bream. “You know, that’s just some stuff people say.”
He then delved into the what he considers the overhype of Ocasio-Cortez’s candidacy.
“I don’t want to be uncharitable to the Democratic nominee, but I would say that she is quickly becoming one of the most overrated politicians in America,” Stirewalt continued. “And it’s like that because of the hype. And it’s not her fault. The hype around her is astonishing. I can’t believe what I’m hearing… She’s 28 years old! And by the way, to take nothing away from the shoe leather that she used and she showed her actual shoes- how hard she worked to beat Crowley, New York is not a justly and orderly run state from a political point of view. It is machine politics and a big way. Joe Crowley should have been bounced out of that seat by somebody a long time ago, but he is the power of incumbency and the fact that you know how many people voted in the primary? Like none. Like 25,000 people voted in that primary.”
Stirewalt concluded that as one 435 members of Congress, she’ll “never live up” to the attention she’s been receiving.
