Time rolls on, whether we like it or not. Case in point? We are just one year away from the 2018 midterm elections. All told, there will be 34 Senate seats up for grabs and the entire House, making for a total of 468 contested seats.
Will the president’s dire approval ratings translate to a big win for Democrats? Can they retake the Senate and, gasp, even the House? More importantly, what would be their agenda if they managed to pull it off?
Fox News politics editor Chris Stirewalt told host Harris Faulkner today that Democrats would have one thing on their minds if they managed to shake the polls in 2018, impeaching Donald Trump.
“There is real danger for the president lurking out there,” he said. “Republicans, obviously, if they lose control of Congress there is a very strong chance that Donald Trump will be impeached.”
Faulkner, somewhat incredulous, exclaimed “You think so?”
Stirewalt continued, reminding the host of recent political history.
“These are politicians,” he said. “When Republicans impeached Bill Clinton I’m sure there were other things that the American people wished that they would have focused on, but they focused on satisfying a bloodthirsty base.”
“I’m sure there would be many calls among Democrats to do the same. That’s the real danger for Trump.”
This may be a pipe dream for Democrats, however. The Senate map favors
Current polling models predict Democrats will gain 10 seats in the House. They need to flip 28 seats to regain control of Congress.
