During a segment about a woman who alleges that she was sexually assaulted by a man she met on the dating website Match.com, O’Reilly Factor contributor Lis Wiehl made an unwise wisecrack Tuesday night. Noting that the assault occurred on a second date, she wondered aloud about the alleged victim, “Who goes out with a guy like that twice?”
The case involves a woman who is suing Match.com for failing to screen applicants for sex offenses, and seeking only to have them begin such a practice. The alleged assailant, Alan Paul Wurtzel, is awaiting trial later this month.
After detailing how easy it was to locate the man’s criminal history, Wiehl noted, “It was a second date. Who goes out with a guy like that twice?”
Host Bill O’Reilly, who has been criticized in the past for what some saw as insensitive comments about rape victims, immediately sprang to the woman’s defense, saying “That’s not fair. A lot of these people are really schizophrenic.”
Wiehl continued to blame the alleged victim, though, saying “She should have googled him, she should have taken the time.”
Factor contributor Kimberly Guilfoyle, though, was the voice of reason, noting that “She’s the victim, she was raped, he’s the criminal.”
