Yesterday Fox News ran a report quoting a source close to the James Holmes investigation who claimed that a notebook Holmes sent to a University of Colorado psychiatrist was sitting in a mailbox at the university since July 12th. A spokeswoman for the university has disputed the information, claiming they had only just received it this Monday, but Fox News is standing by its report.
According to Reuters, university spokeswoman Jacque Montgomery said the package containing the notebook arrived in the mailroom on Monday and it was immediately handed over to local authorities. She claimed that the information provided to Fox News was “inaccurate.”
In a statement to Mediaite, Fox News EVP and Executive Editor John Moody stands by the report.
“We respect the University’s position but are confident that our law enforcement source, who we will not name because of a prior agreement, was in a position to know the timing of the package’s whereabouts. We believe those details will be part of the evidence, which will be presented at an eventual trial.”
