Fox News’ Jesse Watters: ‘Trump Lost The Battle’ So He Needs to ‘Win the War’ Now

Fox News’ Jesse Watters said today that President Donald Trump only “lost the battle” today, but he hasn’t lost the war.

The president today announced a deal to end the shutdown that the Senate approved late this afternoon, though the continuing resolution goes until February 15, at which point POTUS said he could potentially declare a national emergency.

On The Five, Dana Perino remarked, “We are back where we began before the shutdown even started.”

“I think Trump lost the battle so he’s got to win the war,” Watters said. “He’s got to get something out of an emergency declaration, and if he doesn’t get something done there, he has to flip the House in 2020.”

Getting reelected in 2020, he added, could end up with Trump having more of a mandate for the wall funding.

“The last shutdown was the Schumer shutdown,” he continued, “and that was perfectly Teed up for the president because Schumer was protecting illegal immigrants over veterans getting paid. This dynamic was totally different because the president took ownership of the shutdown, and then it was the border wall funding versus American federal workers getting paid, and that really wasn’t a very good dynamic for him.”
