Fox News’ Martha MacCallum Gets Huge Ratings Boost from Kavanaugh Interview; Tops Monday Cable News Ratings

Fox News’ Martha MacCallum scored an exclusive interview with Brett Kavanaugh last night, and it not only scored her a big ratings win, but made her show The Story the most-watched cable news program Monday night.

MacCallum pointedly asked Kavanaugh about the multiple allegations against him, and the reception was split: she was praised by many for her questioning, but others criticized her for not being tougher. Before the interview, her colleague John Roberts tweeted, “So – a lot of Twitter critics think @FoxNews will lob softballs at Kavanaugh. If they think that, they clearly don’t know @marthamaccallum at all.”

A lot of people were tuned in for the big exclusive: a whopping total of 3.56 million people watched, with 610,000 in the advertiser coveted 25-54 demo alone.

MacCallum easily took the #1 spot in the 7 p.m. time slot, more than tripling the ratings of CNN’s Erin Burnett (916,000 in total viewers, 323,000 in the demo) and nearly doubling those of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews (1.8 million in total viewers, 304,000 in the demo).

Her show’s big ratings spike crowned The Story as the most-watched cable news program last night, beating out even Fox News’s resident ratings titan Sean Hannity (3.2 million total viewers, 575,000 in the demo) and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow (3.1 million total viewers, 660,000 in the demo).
