On Fox News’ Outnumbered today, Melissa Francis defended CNN’s Jim Acosta a little after he was heckled by Trump supporters before last night’s South Carolina presidential rally.

During a live shot from the venue last night, there were chants of “Go Home Jim!” and someone holding up a CNN SUCKS sign.

In a segment on incivility that also addressed the comments from Congresswoman Maxine Waters about harassment of Trump officials, Marie Harf said after watching the video of Acosta, she was reminded of when Trump told supporters he would pay their legal bills if they got in trouble for beating up protesters.

“I don’t like what was done to Jim Acosta. I think having been a reporter in that position, you can crank up, you know, what you’re hearing in your ear, and you can kind of block it out and he was really professional in blocking it out there. But I don’t think that was fair or right.”

Last year the hosts of Outnumbered criticized Acosta for his complaints after an off-camera gaggle when Sean Spicer was still press secretary.

Acosta wrote a piece for CNN.com today detailing his surreal interactions with people at that Trump rally last night, ranging from vitriolic to apologetic.
