Fox News’ Napolitano Lays Out Possible ‘DOOMSDAY’ Scenario for Trump
You know things are getting rough for Donald Trump when Fox News legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano is predicting “doomsday” for Trump if he ever has to face a jury, or even a Republican-controlled Senate.
Trump supporters may console themselves by insisting that it’s just the over-eager mainstream media predicting dire consequences over the raft of investigations that are going on, but on Monday afternoon’s edition of Fox News’ Shepard Smith Reporting, it was Judge Nap joining that chorus.
Napolitano, who spent all last week loudly proclaiming the serious legal jeopardy Trump is in, told Smith that the federal judge in the Michael Cohen case “said verbally the president of the United States orchestrated and paid for this crime” when sentencing Cohen last week.
Smith then said that “at some point a higher authority would make a determination” whether or not Trump is, indeed, guilty of directing a criminal conspiracy.
“Yes,” Napolitano replied. “The president does not want that to be a jury of the Senate, or a jury of his peers. ”
“Why not?” Smith asked.
“I don’t think he wants to get to that point. That would be doomsday,” Napolitano said.
“Doomsday?” a stunned Smith asked.
“Yeah. That would mean there’s enough evidence to indict and try, or enough evidence to impeach,” Napolitano said.
Judge Nap’s remarks echo those of CNBC correspondent John Harwood, who said over the weekend that former NRCC head Tom Davis told him that Trump’s removal in the Senate is a distinct possibility.
“He says he thinks some Republicans will likely eventually join with Democrats in that front, and that it’s not impossible, given what Mueller finds, and how political circumstances deteriorate, that it’s not out of the question that a Senate could convict on impeachment charges,” Harwood said.
